Lesson 1 - Introduction to Growth and Development
This lesson we will be having a discussion introducing the topic of Growth and Development.
As always what doesn't get completed in class becomes homework.
Activity #1:
Write a definition for Growth and a defintion for Development.
Make sure to rule up your page neatly and using pen.
Growth is an obvious physical change, whereas development is not just limited to being physical. There are 4 different areas in which we can develop. They include:
- Physical
- Social
- Emotional
- Intellectual
Activity #2:
Can you determine what type of development the following are??? Create a list in your exercise book... make sure you rule up and write out a heading in red pen. Using blue or black pen elsewhere.
1) Making Friends
2) Jump Shot in Basketball
3) Math Equation
4) Dealing with stress
5) Wearing a bike helmet
6) Writing an argumentative essay
7) Paint a portrait
8) Using a computer
9) Coping with grief
10) Learning to run

- Growth and Development is unique in every person.
- The rates of development vary
- Growth follows an orderly and predictable pattern
- Growth is influenced by Heredity and Environment.
